You know you're going to get a different kind of superhero when you cast Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role. And Iron Man is different, in welcome ways. Cleverly updated from Marvel Comics' longstanding series, Iron Man puts billionaire industrialist Tony Stark (that's Downey) in the path of some Middle Eastern terrorists; in a brilliantly paced section, Stark invents an indestructible suit that allows him to escape. If the rest of the movie never quit hits that precise rhythm again, it nevertheless offers plenty of pleasure, as the renewed Stark swears off his past as a weapons manufacturer, develops his new Iron Man suit, and puzzles both his business partner (Jeff Bridges in great form) and executive assistant (Gwyneth Paltrow). Director Jon Favreau geeks out in fun ways with the hardware, but never lets it overpower the movie, and there's always a goofy one-liner or a slapstick pratfall around to break the tension. As for Downey, he doesn't get to jitterbug around too much in his improv way, but he brings enough of his unpredictable personality to keep the thing fresh. And listen up, hardcore Marvel mavens: even if you know the Stan Lee cameo is coming, you won't be able to guess it until it's on the screen. on 2010-07-17I love just about any movie Robert Downey Jr. is in and this is no exception. Good action movie with a little bit of "this is unbelievable". It's a great family movie. And who doesn't like a superhero.

on 2010-07-07I ordered this movie for my son because Iron Man is his favorite and knew he would love it for his birthday. His birthday was in the middle of June it is now past the 4th of July and we still have not received the movie!!!!!!!!

on 2010-07-06It was good, But I would have prefere it to be lighter in the background of the movie it was dark.there were scritches on the DVD, but didn't seem to interfere with the movie. The rest of the movie was good....

on 2010-07-05Well done but not quite as A quality as the first one. Most of the living cast is back as well as an old Mickey Rourke as the villain and someone named Scarlet Johansen or however you spell it. :) MY GRADE: B plus.

on 2010-07-01This movie was purchased primarily as a gift. Viewed it with my son, had a blast! He wanted to see it, but was ill when the movie was playing in the theaters. We are going to go see Iron Man II tomorrow night!
